A Native American Prayer

Created by Sheena 10 years ago
Nick and I were a generation apart, but the age difference between us was only three years. We grew up together in beautiful villages two miles apart. We attended the same schools as children and headed off in very different directions as we became adults. However, the bond of that childhood always remained with us. We were so lucky to have the rolling green hills of Somerset as our playground. We had freedom to roam and play, laughing, arguing and just doing what children do. In our play we were always surrounded by the beauty of the countryside and when I first read the poem that I am about to read to you it brought back a lot of those happy memories of the place that Nick called home, where he'd always lived and the place that will always remind me of him. A Native American Prayer I give you this one thought to keep- I am with you still - I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle Autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the sweet uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not think of me as gone - I am with you still in each new dawn.
